Follow the steps below to begin your journey to a new exciting, fulfilling, and challenging career.
Step 1:
Learn a few acroynms that will help you undertand and navigate your journey.

Step 2:
Locate a real estate school approved by the state of Indiana that suits your schedule and needs as a student. Indiana offers many options for approved schools. Many schools offer in-person or online learning choices.
Step 3:
Complete and pass the 90-hour state approved course through the school you chose in Step 2.
Step 4:
Pass the Indiana Licensing Exam.
Step 5:
Interview managing brokers to find the right fit for you.
Associate your license with a managing broker. When you align yourself with a managing broker who is a REALTOR® you know they are bound by a strict National Code of Ethics encouraging professional conduct and public trust. REALTORS® have unique opportunities to fight for real estate issues, professionalism and homeownership through their advocacy efforts.
Step 6:
Apply for your Indiana Real Estate Brokers License through the Professional Licensing Agency (PLA).
Congratulations, once you have completed the process with the PLA you are a licensed real estate agent.
What is next?
Once you are licensed and associated with a managing broker who is a member of MEIAR, you may join to gain additional benefits of our local Association.
When you join MEIAR your membership also includes membership to the state and national association of REALTORS®, and the Indiana Regional Multiple Listing Service. By belonging to the National Association of REALTORS®, you are able to call yourself a REALTOR®.
After your application has been processed and approved.......
MEIAR staff will contact you to schedule your two day training session at which time you will receive user names and passwords to programs offered with your membership. Learn the basic navigation for the MLS, and review the Rules and Regulations.
You will also be invited to attend New Member Orientation in Muncie at a later date.
Continued Responsibilities to Maintain your License and Membership with MEIAR:
- Within 2 years of your license date you must complete the 30-hour post education course through an approved provider.
- Every year after you must complete 12-hours of continuing education through an approved provider.
- Once every "3-year cycle" you must complete the Code of Ethics course. Current cycle is 3#, running from January 1st, 2022 through December 31st, 2024.
- Pay your technology fees on-time.
- Pay your yearly state, national, and local dues on-time.
